Céline Dion's Reactions at Couture Fashion Shows Are More Beautiful Than Any Dress Could Be
While most of us were sizing up this year's slate of Couture shows, debating the merits of Viktor and Rolf's clothing-as-meme and Chanel's aquatic bride, we may have missed the point. And we never would have known, were it not for Céline Dion.
Dion was seated front row at many of the week's top shows, giving us an ideal view of her reactions to the couture confections floating down the runway. While most audience members were exhibiting a practiced, Wintour-style aloofness, calculating the allure of a given ruffle or bow, Dion was in it.

First, we saw her taken aback at the Armani Privé show. As a Garage editor captured on video, Dion was chatting away when a sparkling, floral dress passed by. Stunned, she immediately disengaged from her conversation, her jaw dropping in awe. Dion reveals a depth of emotion that seems inconceivable to us cynical mortals. But then, we can't sing "My Heart Will Go On" with the necessary gut-wrenching melancholy, either.
At Valentino's show, Dion was literally moved to tears-although there's a somber context for this one. Robert’s Flack's "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" was playing during the presentation, which happens to have been the song Dion and her late husband René Angélil danced to at their wedding. And in an unhappy coincidence, the show took place on the three-year anniversary of Angélil's funeral, per Page Six.
Dion soldiered through, still taking in each gown while dotting her eyes with a handkerchief.

Thankfully, at other shows, our Queen Céline thoroughly enjoyed herself. Before the Alexandre Vauthier Haute Couture presentation, she was snapped getting silly with her good friend, dancer Pepe Muñoz. When it was over, she was so taken that she couldn't help but jump up to embrace the designer.
Couture is by nature ridiculous, in the best way-we didn't need Viktor and Rolf's Twitter-tailored humor to teach us that. So why waste our time doing anything but enjoying it, in all of its beautiful absurdity. Dion did Couture week like we all should: in awe.
