Brooke Shields Says This Face Oil Saved Her Skin During Menopause

Brooke Shields is a natural innovator. She pioneered thick brows and basically invented Calvin Klein’s marketing strategy, and now, the 55-year-old icon is using Instagram to break down the stigma around menopause — specifically, the changes it means for skin.
“Menopause has been a taboo subject for far too long. Why is it no one talks [sic] about it, despite it happening to literally every single woman on the face of the planet?” the model, actress, and author posted on Instagram. “It’s 2021. It’s past due time to fully embrace that women’s bodies are not embarrassing, taboo, or a threat. So let’s talk about it, ladies. I’ll start by sharing one of my tips for menopause in the caption below, which involves this skin rescue in a bottle.”
The “skin rescue” in question is True Botanicals CBD500 Anti-Inflammaging Face Oil, an oil that combines 500 milligrams of full-spectrum CBD with True Botanicals’ trademark moisturizing, radiance-creating ingredients. For full disclosure, Shields has partnered with the brand — but given True Botanicals’ track record of raves from fellow partners Olivia Wilde, Laura Dern, and Emily Ratajkowski (and InStyle’s own editors), the formula earns the praise.

“I see menopause as the start of the most empowered phase of a woman’s life — we should talk about it more,” Shields continued of the find that’s transformed her skin. “CBD500 Anti-Inflammaging Face Oil by @truebotanicals is specifically formulated to support your skin during hormonal changes with full spectrum CBD and deeply moisturizing seed oils. I use this everyday [sic] and my skin is always left hydrated and glowy.” On True Botanicals’ Instagram page, the brand elaborates on how the formula uses “CBD, terpenes, cannabinoids, antioxidants, nourishing omegas and essential fatty acids that reduce and prevent inflammaging, optimize skin barrier function and smooth fine lines and wrinkles.”
The benefits of CBD are far-reaching: The non-psychoactive compound is shown to help lower pain and inflammation due to arthritis in animal studies, and according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, ongoing studies are examining its effect on depression, anxiety, and PTSD. As for its effect on menopausal skin, the brand says the formula is tailored to help with various signs of inflammation such as irritation, redness and stressed, sensitive skin.
Menopause’s drop in estrogen and progesterone can cause skin to lose collagen and firmness, board-certified dermatologist Dr. Ellen Marmur previously told InStyle, which makes it uncomfortably tight. True Botanicals’ formula counters menopause’s “diminished vascular and lymphatic circulation and moisturization” with “deeply moisturizing” seed oils like organic jojoba seed oil, hemp seed oil, rosehip seed oil, sea buckthorn oil and squalane.
The response to Shields’ post proves the demographic has been left high and dry (no pun intended). The video’s garnered 35,900 likes and over 1,200 comments — a stark contrast to the 248 comments on Shields’ preceding post. Stars like Sharon Stone and Courteney Cox lent their support, with Stone writing, “Thank you. I’m in late-stage menopause, started at 62.”
She continued: “Every doctor tested me for MS and leukemia long before considering menopause. Why? Because we don’t EVER TALK ABOUT IT, IT’S LIKE A DIRTY WORD. I was so sick with no help for over a year, with everyone saying ‘she’s crazy.’ The favorite go-to for every female issue . It’s very much time for a WAKE UP CALL ON MENOPAUSE ????????????????.”
Anecdotally, shoppers say products like Lord Jones’ High CBD Formula Body Lotion and True Botanicals’ CBD face oil are a godsend. “CBD Anti-Inflammaging Oil has totally rejuvenated my skin and has given me that dewy glow I always strive for,” one person writes of the latter, which has them “LITERALLY OBSESSED.” Another says it’s their go-to fix for breakouts and redness, and it’s become such a necessity that they “can't live without this face oil.” One more writes: “Just got my bottle today and WOW does this stuff smell amazing. My skin feels magnificent.”
