Breaking: Ethan Ewing Injured at Teahupo'o
Big news out of Tahiti.
While warming up for the contest, Ethan Ewing hurt himself. The details and severity of the injury is currently unknown, but either way, it's forced Ewing to pull out of the contest.
"Ethan Ewing has withdrawn following an injury sustained while practicing at Teahupo'o," says the WSL. "He will be replaced by Mihimana Braye, the next highest Tahitian surfer on the Challenger Series rankings."
While Ewing is safely in the Top 5 heading into Trestles, this news still has major implications, as he's less than 300 points ahead of Griffin Colapinto. Will he slip down the rankings while sidelined? And even more importantly: Will he be able to compete for the Title at Trestles in one month's time?
The news of Braye replacing Ewing is also controversial, with many feeling Eimeo Czermak should have got the nod after his runner-up finish in the trials.
"What?? Wowww!!!!" Czermak writes in the comments above, with many more commenters voicing their disappointment in the WSL's decision.
Another comp, another controversy.
Stay tuned for the details on Ewing's injury.
