Brady Bunch house is up for sale, but could be bought by demolition-hungry developers

It's a Seventies paradise that will be instantly iconic to those who watched The Brady Bunch, but the home that posed as the sitcom's abode could be torn down.

The house, which is situated in the Studio City suburb of Los Angeles, is currently on the market for the first time in 45 years. The previous owners moved in in 1973, when the sitcom was reaching its end, and have barely changed the decor over the past few decades.

However, the estate agent selling the property has said that the future of the house looks uncertain given the interest it has attracted from property developers who could make greater profit from the land it stands on.

Jodie Levitus Francisco, from Berkshire Hathaway, said: “I have several buyers already interested. They’re developers for the lot size. They might tear down, but the listing agent said the family was hoping to get someone to preserve the house, and at $1.85 million, I don’t know if a developer would pay that much.”

The 1959-built property was only used for exterior shots, for which a fake window was placed on the outside of the house to give the impression of it having two storeys (how else would the Bradys pose on those stairs?) Since the Brady Bunch exploded onto US screens in the late Sixties, whereupon it was enjoyed by 19.3 million viewers at its peak in 1972, the house has become the second-most photographed property after the White House.

Its $1.85 million price tag (￡1,422,899) will get you two bedrooms and plenty of open-plan living space – plus a slice of US TV history.
