Blind Pig Pub to close after 10 years on Linden Street

After more than a decade in Old Town, Blind Pig Pub will shut down at the end of the year, manager Jackson Stuber confirmed to the Coloradoan Monday.

The bar and restaurant is closing due to a recent increase in its rent, according to Stuber.

"It really does hurt," Stuber said of notifying Blind Pig Pub's customers of its impending closure. "We care about everyone who comes in. A restaurant is just a building; it’s about the people that fill it."

The building's owner, Steve Ackerman, confirmed that Blind Pig Pub's rent was set to increase based off of a professional survey conducted on the building two years ago. The increase comes after Ackerman said he agreed to keep renting the space to the bar below market rates in the years since the survey.

"After two years, they have decided to close. I'm sorry to see them go," Ackerman said. "... They've been a great tenant and fixture on Linden Street for over 10 years."

Blind Pig Pub opened in March 2013, taking over the central Linden Street space that was previously home to Fort Collins favorite Linden's and the seemingly revolving door of bar concepts that came after it — including Hamilton's, the Black Oak, Connor O'Neill's, Kimsey's, Sports eXchange and Wall Street.

It is set to close by Jan. 1, if not earlier, Stuber said.
