Billy Porter just wore a train so long to the 2020 Golden Globes that our hearts skipped a beat. After his red carpet interview with E!, fellow nominee Christina Applegate needed to "dodge his train," as she headed up for her interview with Ryan Seacrest. Fashion so major it requires crowds to make way? We expect nothing less of Billy Porter, who never disappoints when it comes to bringing just the right amount of drama to any and every red carpet.
The Pose actor worked on his custom Alex Vinash look—a white silk tuxedo accented with a chapel-length train of feathers—for three months prior to tonight's red carpet. In his interview with E!, Porter acknowledges that sketches, concept, and production began prior to his nomination; "we had hopes," he said. "It's really odd to have to work on clothes before you're even nominated, so let me just say that it was with the hope..."—that he could bring his epic bridal-esque suit into the world for tonight's carpet.
"The feathers are fragile," Porter said, which explains why the actor required handlers (or page boys) to make his way through the lengthy red carpet. The suit, which Porter accessorized with crystal-encrusted Jimmy Choo shoes and Tiffany & Co. jewels, also converts into a more manageable look for the awards' dinner reception. "It is a dinner, and this is not a sitting look," Porter said. "This. Is a Standing Look." It seems as though we have more to look out for from Billy Porter tonight, when his grand train converts into a more manageable set of feathered tails for the later part of this evening, and potentially, his first Golden Globes win.
