A Big Screen Documentary About Anthony Bourdain Is In The Works
This fall, a final season of Parts Unknown will air on CNN, stitching together the final pieces of footage Anthony Bourdain filmed before his death. That won't be the last time fans and friends will get to join Anthony's world on screen - CNN told Vanity Fair they are in pre-production on "the definitive Bourdain feature documentary," expected to debut as early as 2019.
The documentary will focus on Anthony's life and work, giving viewers even more access to the beloved chef and travel host. According to Vanity Fair, the movie will first roll out on the festival circuit, then come to theaters. After that, it will air on CNN. Another popular CNN documentary showcasing Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's life, RBG, rolled out the same way.
Still untitled, the project will be made with Zero Point Zero, the production company behind Parts Unknown. Of the decision to make a full-length documentary about Anthony, CNN's Executive Vice President for Talent and Content Amy Entelis told VF, "As well as we knew Tony, because he did reveal himself in the series, there was still a hunger to know more about him, and to honor his work and celebrate him. The documentary format became one of the more obvious ways to go."
With tributes to Anthony still pouring in, the movie will likely draw in his many fans, and CNN is determined to get it right. "We just want to make it perfect,” Entelis said. “We want to make it exquisite for Tony. We want to do him justice."
