The Best Non-Alcoholic Wine Alternatives - Dry January Spotlight: Sovi

Conceived and brought to market by husband & wife team Alex and Julia Littauer, both of whom have extensive experience in the wine industry. When they started to find themselves wanting a glass of wine but without the effects of alcohol, a lightbulb went off. They conceptualized the idea and went to work on what became Sovi while attending business school at Cornell. In a covid-influenced drinking world, more non-alcoholic options needed to be made available that were delicious, and relatively wine-like.
As we get older the hangovers come more often and more viciously, and both Alex & Julia found themselves wanting to cut back on alcohol but not ditch it forever! Sovi's initial trials went on for a year and a half, finally releasing their first Sparkling Rosé in March of 2021. Getting a non-alcoholic wine or wine alternative to be as wine-like as possible turns out to be quite challenging, but the balance was struck and a star was born.

Now into their third year, the brand has brought to market a multitude of products in both bottle and can—like their Sparkling Rosé and Sparkling White, Chenin Blanc, Rosé of Pinot Noir, and Red Blend. New for Q3 of 2023 came the second release of their Reserve Red—a non-vintage blend of 2018 Tempranillo & 2022 Malbec, aged in both French and American oak. The Reserve Red is elegant and savory with complexity gained from the long oak influenced aging process.
All of Sovi’s non-alcoholic offerings are made from grapes that are certified sustainably grown, and sourced from a single estate in Clarksburg AVA of California, just 40 miles east of Napa. The combination of intention in the vineyard and during the winemaking process allows the wine-obsessed Sovi team to create dry and complex non-alcoholic wines without the need for any unnecessary sugars or added flavors.
