New Bedford Oysterfest is city's newest summer celebration. Here's what to know.
NEW BEDFORD — With summer just starting off, seafood lovers are gearing up for one of the biggest events of the season — the New Bedford Oysterfest at Cisco Brewers on June 15.
This new festival, presented by Explore New Bedford and the Fishing Heritage Center, is a tribute to the city's rich fishing heritage and its title as the seafood capital of America.
“We are thrilled to support the Fishing Heritage Center’s efforts to present New Bedford’s first oyster festival overlooking the water at Cisco Brewers," said Explore New Bedford Director Ashley Payne.
"This festival is a fantastic opportunity to draw visitors from near and far, boosting tourism and supporting the local economy."

If you're planning on attending, here are a few things you should know before you go:
Tons of oysters to try
Similar to events such as Chowderfest, the star of the show at the New Bedford Oysterfest is the oysters. Participants have the chance to sample a variety of fresh local oysters, shucked by the growers themselves. With seven different growers showcasing their shells, people will get a true taste of the local oyster scene.
Get to know the growers
Not only will people get to taste the oysters, but also have the opportunity to chat with the growers and learn more about their stories and the process of oyster farming. It's a chance to connect with the people behind the oysters and understand the local seafood industry.
Tickets are required to enter
In order to attend the New Bedford Oysterfest, guests need to purchase a ticket in advance or on the day of the event. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 on the day of the event, and include a sampling of half a dozen oysters, a complimentary craft beverage and a souvenir shucking knife to take home.
Where to attend the event
The Oysterfest will be held at the Cisco Brewers located at 1482 E Rodney French Blvd. The venue features five outdoor bars, live music, food trucks and the surf-themed Cisco Kitchen & Bar.
While you're at the Oysterfest, be sure to take the time to also visit the Fishing Heritage Center at 38 Bethel St, where people can learn more about the city's fishing industry and the people. The center offers tours, talks, classes, and more to help visitors truly understand and appreciate the importance of fishing in New Bedford.
The event is family-friendly
The event is a family-friendly event, with no age restrictions. There will be plenty of activities for children to enjoy during the event.
Supporting the local fishing industry
Proceeds from the event will go towards the Fishing Heritage Center and its mission to preserve and promote the city's fishing history. By attending, you'll be helping to support a valuable part of New Bedford's culture and economy.
