Batter Up! Looks Like ‘The Sandlot’ Is Coming to TV with Original Cast Members
Calling all Sandlot fans: Get ready for some serious nostalgia, because our favorite coming-of-age movie is being reworked for television.
And that’s not all. It looks like the original cast members will be back for the latest edition.
During a visit to the podcast The Rain Delay, writer-director David Mickey Evans explained how he just sold the TV show to an unnamed service (could it be Netflix??).
“We’re about to get an order for the first two seasons,” said Evans. “I already got all of the original cast members back.” We know what you’re thinking: How is the original cast going to play kids? Don’t worry, Evans clarified.
“It takes place in 1984 when they’re all like 33 years old and they all have children of their own. And that’s all I can tell you,” he said.
The original 1993 film, set in the San Fernando Valley in 1962, followed Scotty Smalls (Tom Guiry) as he tries to win the approval of the neighborhood kids through baseball. There was also a sequel (2005), which was direct-to-DVD and featured a different cast.
And in case you missed it, the cast of The Sandlot reunited on the Today show last April in honor of the film’s 25th anniversary.
Just one question: Will the Beast be involved?
