‘The Bachelorette’ Season 14, Episode 2 Recap: Cue the Drama
*Warning: Spoilers ahead*
Becca takes the men on the first dates of the season.
Colton drops a major bombshell.
Jordan proves he’ll do anything for attention.
On season 14, episode two of The Bachelorette, Becca Kufrin kicks off the first dates of the season. But will a former flame force her to send a fan-favorite home? Here’s what went down.
The First Group Date
The episode opens on Kufrin enjoying her first official day as the Bachelorette with a casual bike ride along the California coast. Cut to the men celebrating their first day in the mansion by screaming at the top of their lungs from the balcony, obnoxiously running down the stairs and wearing really, really tight shirts.
Right on cue, Chris Harrison arrives with the first group date card, and it’s addressed to Clay, Nick, Chris R., David, Jean Blanc, Jordan, Conner and Lincoln. When they meet up with Kufrin, she explains they’re getting pampered just like she did during her first date on The Bachelor. She presents them with tuxedos, shoes and—of course—Champagne and makes zero effort to hide the fact that she’s checking them out while they undress. Can you really blame her?
The group heads outside to find season 13 Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay and her fiancé, Bryan Abasolo, standing next to a muddy obstacle course. So much for pampering…
Race to the Altar
Lindsay introduces the game, aptly titled “Grooms Day,” and explains they will compete in a series of obstacles—including “Ball and Chain,” “Cold Feet” and “Slippery Slope”—that are designed to determine whether or not they’re husband material. The first person to crawl (yes, crawl) down the aisle and propose to Kufrin will take home the “W.”
And the winner is…Lincoln!
Later that night, Kufrin barely finishes her toast before Lincoln steals her away and simultaneously pisses off, like, every single guy in the room. During their one-on-one chat, she gives him a framed picture from their wedding earlier in the day, and he lights up like a kid in a candy store.
He says, “Kissing Becca is like flying to the moon on the wings of a Pegasus while dancing with unicorns on a pile of gold.” Um, what?
The Drama
After their chat, Lincoln returns to the rest of the group and proudly sets his photo in the middle of the table. The men are—understandably—annoyed, considering he’s flirting with the frame as if it’s not an inanimate object.
When Connor lays the pic flat on the table, Lincoln sets it back up. When Connor hides it behind the couch, Lincoln returns it to the table. Fed up, Connor takes the frame and chucks it into the pool. Bold move.
Lincoln becomes overwhelmingly emotional, saying Connor is “classless” and that he “destroyed something that meant a lot” to him. Erm, are we still talking about the framed photo?
He explains the situation to Kufrin like the tattletale that he is and asks for another picture. When she confronts Connor for being “aggressive,” he apologizes for going too far and admits the photo rubbed him the wrong way. Of course, she isn’t buying it and gives the rose to Jean Blanc, leaving Connor to question his actions.
The One-On-One Date
And the first one-on-one date of the season goes to—drumroll, please—Blake. For once, Kufrin is out of the loop and reveals that Harrison planned today’s date. Gulp. When they arrive, they’re taken aback by the “sketchy” area, graffiti and barbed wire. Very out of character, Bachelorette team.
But that all changes when they spot Harrison waiting for them with a sledgehammer. After giving them jumpsuits, helmets and—you guessed it—sledgehammers, the host reveals that everything Kufrin needs to move on from Arie Luyendyk Jr. is located in this warehouse.
The couple walks in to find a slew of items that are connected to bad memories, including a Champagne tower, a race car, TV monitors playing the proposal and even the couch where Luyendyk Jr. broke up with her. The goal? To destroy everything. They even enlisted rapper Lil Jon to play music during the demolition.
That night, Blake opens up about his previous relationship and reveals he fell hard and fast, similar to Kufrin’s experience on The Bachelor. But now that he had his heart broken, he’s no longer afraid to be vulnerable. She eats it up (natch) and gives him the rose for helping her “get back on that horse.”
Group Date 2.0
The final group card arrives for Garrett, Rickey, John, Ryan, Alex, Christon, Trent, Leo, Wills and Colton, which means Jason and Mike aren’t getting dates this week. Womp, womp. The men walk into a gym only to be pelted by dodgeballs. After a brief training boot camp, the group heads to Sky Zone, an indoor trampoline park, for the real competition (aka the “Ultimate Bachelorette Dodgeball Championship”).
The men split into two teams—pink and green—which is kind of a moot point. You see, the entire competition is pretty much Leo versus the green team, considering the poor guy is the last-standing member of the pink team during every single round. To no surprise, the Green Frogs took home the “W.” (Sorry, Leo.)
Later that night, Colton pulls Kufrin aside and drops a major bombshell. He reveals that he had a previous relationship with Tia, who was a contestant on Luyendyk Jr.’s season. Since she and Tia are friends, he wants to clear the air and let her know that he’s in a different place now than when he dated Tia. Kufrin couldn’t be more stoic and says she feels sick before awkwardly excusing herself. Yikes.
At the cocktail party, Wills walks away with the coveted rose.
The Decision
The next day, the men are pulling out all the stops to win over Kufrin. But the real fun begins when Jordan shows off his modeling skills by stripping down to his underwear and parading himself around the mansion.
He says, “Tick tock, let’s make it rock.” You do you, Jordan.
The model walks in to find Becca having a one-on-one conversation with David, who awkwardly excuses himself at the sight of Jordan’s bare abs. Jordan says he doesn’t want her to misjudge him and claims to live life on the edge, but no one is buying it.
Later on, David accuses Jordan of being disrespectful and demands to know why he came on the show. He defends himself by saying his briefs are comparable to swimwear, natch.
At the rose ceremony, Becca sends home Rickey, Alex and Trent.
Close call, Connor and Colton. The Bachelorette returns to ABC next Monday at 8 p.m.
