Ashley Graham responds to body shamer on Instagram: 'Hope I still have a career with my stretch marks'
Ashley Graham has yet to give birth to her twin boys, but the expectant mother is already dealing with criticism from people on social media.
The 34-year-old supermodel shared a slideshow of fall photos to her Instagram on Monday, which included a video of her husband Justin Ervin photographing her with her baby belly on full display. "Heart is full this fall," she captioned the post, where the couple's one-year-old son Issac was also seen.
"Heart & belly is full!" one person commented in response to Graham's pregnancy. "My heart is full seeing how content and happy the three/five of you are," wrote another.
Still, the model couldn't steer clear of criticism with her happy post. She even responded to someone who tried to shame her over the stretch marks on her belly.
"I had twins but I did not get stretch marks. I hope that does not affect your career," the commenter wrote.
With a screenshot posted to her Instagram stories, Graham responded, "Gosh — hope I still have a career with my stretch marks," alongside eye-rolling emojis. In fact, the lines on her stomach are something that Graham has embraced long before her pregnancy as an advocate for body positivity and acceptance. Even after her first pregnancy, she's continued to celebrate them.
"Same me. Few new stories," she captioned a close-up photo of her striped stomach weeks after giving birth to her first child in 2020.
Graham has since posted slideshows of other women's bodies baring stretch marks and cellulite in the hopes of inspiring more positive body image for her followers. During her current pregnancy, she even opened up about how her mother has reminded the model to show more love to herself.
my mom walked in on me putting lotion on my stretch marks this morning. then she showed me her old stretch marks and reminded me to love myself and be kind to my body.
so now i’m reminding you.— Ashley Graham (@ashleygraham) September 23, 2021
Graham has been praised for the reminders, as well as her own display of body positivity while carrying twins.
"I love seeing a celebrity with belly marks. I had them but all I ever saw were smooth, flawless bumps," someone responded to her latest post. "Seeing this would've helped me so much."
