Twenty five years after The Sandlot first premiered in theaters in 1993, the original cast members of the coming-0f-age movie about a group of kids who like to play baseball reunited on Today.
The actors known for playing Smalls (Tom Guiry), Ham (Patrick Renna), Squints (T Chauncey Leopardi), DeNunez (Brandon Quinton Adams), Yeah-Yeah (Marty York), Timmy (Victor DiMattia), Bertram (Grant Gelt), and Repeat (Shane Obedzinski), shared their thoughts on the film's everlasting legacy. Mike Vitar, who played Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez, was not present.
"It's been crazy," York said. "I mean, it definitely gets you in places for free. I can't walk through a Las Vegas casino without someone yelling 'Yeah-Yeah!'"
"It made a big impact on lots of people's lives," Guiry added.
In 2o15, the New York Yankees paid tribute to the film by recreating one of its scenes.
"I think it's awesome," York said of the video.
David Mickey Evans, who wrote, directed, and narrated The Sandlot, shared why he thinks the movie has resonated with so many people over the years: "The film was made with the same amount of love that people have for it, and it was the greatest summer of our lives."
The cast also spoke with The Hollywood Reporter, and reminisced about how one of the film's most iconic lines came to be.
"You're killing me, Smalls," was totally improvised during filming, Evans said in the interview above. He also added that the Japanese translation of the line is equivalent to "Hurry up! My clothes are going out of style!"
When asked whether they would shoot a sequel, the cast agreed with Obedzinski. "Let's do it," he said.
