Animal Behaviorist Shares the Heartbreaking and Emotional Reality of Rescuing Dogs
The work she does is just so incredible.
Working or volunteering for an animal rescue might seem like a dream come true (and it definitely could be), but it also comes with a lot of challenges. Even visiting a shelter can be heart-wrenching! That's why animal behaviorist and welfare advocate @savannapalmerr posted a TikTok sharing the realities of rescuing pets.
Some of these dogs have us reaching for the tissues! As heartbreaking as these scenes are, though, we know there are angels like Savanna who are working to find these rescue dogs loving, permanent homes.

We wish we could cuddle and comfort every single one of these animals! They seem like the sweetest souls, and we know Savanna loves them just as much as this video's commenters do.
"I wish I could take every single one of these babies and give them everything they ever wanted," wrote @gerifeick4. We know exactly what you mean! Luckily, rescues like the one Savanna works for are trying to do the very same thing, one pet at a time. If only we could keep them all healthy, happy, and loved!
"The dog with the broken heart CRUSHED me," @megsetzer said. "Why are people so cruel?" We have no idea! Before you get too sad, though, Savanna assured this commenter that "Buddy did go to rescue so rest assured, he is safe and loved." That's such a relief! We definitely aren't the only ones feeling grateful for his--and every dog's--rescue.
Viewer @kasiapepiak wrote, "I am a vet tech for 10 years and my heart still breaks every time I see a sad case. Thank you for all you do!" And thank you for all that you do! Keeping pets safe and happy is a team effort, and we're all doing our part.
