Let's rewind back to 2002 when Keith Urban's "Somebody Like You" was topping the charts and we were first mesmerized by Kelly Clarkson's voice. American Idol premiered almost two decades ago and since then, it's introduced us to some of our favorite singers like Fantasia Barrino, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, and, of course, "Before He Cheats" singer Carrie Underwood.
Now fast-forward to present day and the award-winning show is about to kick off its historic 20th season. Last year Chayce Beckham reigned as champion, and with a new executive producer, the show may look a little different in 2022. Despite that, one thing remains certain—we're going to be blown away by some powerful voices and get a good laugh in as we watch some not-so-impressive auditions. Here's what we know so far about American Idol's historic 20th season so far:
When will the next season of American Idol premiere?
For yet another excuse to look forward to the new year, American Idol is airing its newest season on Sunday, February 27, at 8/7c on ABC. The exciting news was shared with fans on Instagram, and let's just say that the response was pure joy.
One fan simply commented "HELL YEAH" while others left messages like, "WE ARE READY!! ????," "The best judges ever!!!!??????," and "Soooo excited!!!!????."
Who are American Idol's Season 20 judges?
It may be a brand new season, but we can definitely expect some familiar faces on the judges panel. Singers Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan are returning for Season 20 along with Ryan Seacrest as the show's host.
To get into the holiday spirit, the judges took to Instagram to play a fun game of "Naughty or Nice" ahead of ABC's season premiere.
