Amazon Is Launching a New Grocery Line—and the Prices are Super-Cheap
By now, everyone knows that grocery prices are high and not coming down—but what can you do? Everyone has to eat, so there's no escaping the madness. You can clip coupons, shop sales, make meal plans and buy in bulk, but the fact remains that prices are just too high.
Places like Walmart and Target have tried to make changes, and both have launched private-label brands that are lower in price than larger brands. Now, Amazon is making a similar move. The retail giant just announced Amazon Saver, its new, low-cost brand that will give consumers affordable groceries.
The new brand will feature a wide assortment of staple items, including crackers, cookies, canned fruits, condiments and more. Most of the products will cost less than $5, and Amazon Prime members will receive an additional 10 percent off.
Amazon has already started rolling out products under its Amazon Saver label, and the company said it will add more than 100 items to the lineup. It was not, however, specified when those items would be available. Amazon has other private-label brands, including Amazon Fresh, Amazon Kitchen, 365 by Whole Foods Market and Happy Belly.
More Savings From Amazon
The savings don't stop there, though. Amazon also announced this week that it is reducing prices at its Amazon Fresh program by slashing the prices of more than 3,000 grocery items. The savings are available both in Amazon Fresh stores and online.
Prime members can get up to 50 percent off eight to 15 grocery items that will rotate each week, and up to 25 percent off more than 1,200 rotating grocery and household staples. The retailer is also offering 10 percent off more than 1,700 products from Amazon's private-label brands.

Amazon is Creating a Better Shopping Experience
Beyond the new discounts, Amazon said that it has made multiple changes to its Amazon Fresh online shopping experience. The retailer has created intuitive shopping zones that group items by theme, such as exclusive Prime member deals and seasonal favorites, and they have a "repeat items" feature, which allows customers to automatically add frequently purchased items to their carts. Shoppers can also make recurring reservations by selecting day and time windows for weekly grocery orders.
"We're always looking to make grocery shopping easier, faster, and more affordable for our customers," Claire Peters, worldwide vice president of Amazon Fresh, said in a news release. "With expanded Prime member savings, the introduction of the new Amazon Saver brand, and simplified online shopping, it's now easier than ever to get your weekly grocery shopping done on a budget with Amazon Fresh—whether you're browsing the aisles or filling your online cart."
You can sign up for an Amazon Prime membership for $14.99 per month or $139 per year.
