Aly Raisman is the Newest #AerieReal Role Model
Since announcing they'd become a photoshop-free brand in 2014, Aerie has been on the forefront of fashion's conversation around body positivity and women's empowerment. From recruiting non-models to pose in ad campaigns to expanding their nude lingerie offerings, Aerie has become a beacon of what brands can do when they let go of archaic notions of style and beauty.
Today, Aerie takes their activism one step forward by expanding its #AerieREAL Role Model family with the introduction of three new Role Models. Gold medal gymnast and women's rights activist Aly Raisman, actress Yara Shahidi, and multi-platinum and award-winning singer-songwriter Rachel Platten join Iskra Lawrence, a leading body-positivity activist and the first Aerie Role Model, in the upcoming spring campaign.
“Yara, Aly, Rachel, and Iskra truly embody AerieREAL and what it means to be strong, confident, and happy in your own skin,” Jennifer Foyle, Aerie Global Brand President, said in a statement. “At Aerie, we believe in authentic, real beauty and never airbrush our models. Now, more than ever, we want to encourage women everywhere to feel empowered to embrace their own unique qualities and beautiful real selves.”
I joined the influential group of women on the set of their AerieReal photoshoot to chat about unique firsts in each of their lives. Watch as Raisman shares the first time she spoke up for herself, Lawrence discusses the first time she loved her body, and more powerful anecdotes.
This March shop exclusive products designed by the Aerie Role Models. 100 percent of sales will benefit a charity of their choice.
