Allbirds Just Released a New Running Shoe With All Proceeds Going to Charity
By now you're probably no stranger to Allbirds, the brand behind the internet's favorite eco-friendly sneakers. They're known for using innovative, sustainable materials like merino wool and tree fibers to craft insanely comfortable and stylish shoes. Now, they're re-vamping their biggest launch of the year to curb hunger in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Enter: the Allbirds x World Central Kitchen Dasher.
Earlier this year, Allbirds launched their first running shoe, the Dasher (spoiler alert: we loved it). To celebrate the launch, Allbirds hosted a virtual 5K that raised $50,000 for World Central Kitchen, an organization that provides smart solutions to fight hunger and poverty. That initial donation planted the seed for their latest collaboration dropping today and it's the sneaker for summer 2020.
First and foremost, by purchasing the WCK Dasher, you're automatically donating $125 to World Central Kitchen—and shopping brands that give back is more important now than ever. As of July 2020, World Central Kitchen has distributed over 19 million individually packaged, fresh meals to communities hardest hit by COVID-19 (at a rate of 150,000 meals per day!).
Now for the shoe itself. The Allbirds x World Central Kitchen style offers up a stylish new take on the original Dasher. It comes in all black, both the upper and sole, with cool rainbow eyelets that correspond to WCK’s colors. The WCK Dasher is the same make of the original, maintaining the dual-density footbed, roomy toebox, and stretchy upper. They're incredibly breathable, too, making them particularly suited for outdoor workouts in the summer months. Plus, the colorway is an aesthetic upgrade. These will look just as good as the original while working out, but are also perfect for running errands around town or any outdoor social activity this summer. It's sleek, comfortable, and supports charity—enough said.
