Aldi Recalls Flour Over Possible E. Coli Contamination
ALDI has voluntarily issued a recall of Baker’s Corner All-Purpose Flour after its 5-lb. bags were linked to an E. coli outbreak that has sickened at least 17 people in eight states. “Consumers should not use any of the recalled flour and should throw recalled flour away,” the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said in a statement.
The flour was sold at ALDI locations in the following states:
Connecticut
Delaware
Massachusetts
New Hampshire
New Jersey
New York
Ohio
Pennsylvania
Rhode Island
Vermont
West Virginia
According to the CDC, illnesses started on dates ranging from December 11, 2018, to April 18, 2019. Three people have been hospitalized, but no deaths have been reported. The CDC is also urging consumers not to eat raw dough or batter, as it might be contaminated with harmful germs.
"If customers have product affected by this voluntary recall, they should discard it immediately or return it to their local store for a full refund," said ALDI in a press release.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is working on an ongoing investigation to determine whether other brands of flour may be potentially contaminated and need to be recalled. Symptoms of E. coli may include diarrhea, abdominal cramping, nausea and vomiting, according to Mayo Clinic.
