This Alabama Man Started A Funeral Home Business To Help Families In Need
Eric Lusain started a funeral home business with one mission in mind: help families in need. Often times, after the loss of a loved one, family members feel great pressure to make a quick decision on the service, committing to something that is far too expensive. Lusain Funeral Home changes that.
“We are able to lower the cost and help more families. We don’t do anything like a traditional funeral home,” said the Alabama native. Lusain got his start in the casket business, where he would personally deliver the caskets. After realizing the 600% mark up was more than people could afford, he took matters into his own hands by opening a funeral home and selling caskets at cost.
The Birmingham location was opened in honor of Lusain’s brother, who passed away shortly before opening. The now funeral home was once his warehouse. Lusain understands that he works with families at their lowest point; he does whatever he can to meet their needs, even if that means laying someone to rest in a beloved Alabama football T-shirt.
He even recruited his wife and mother to help with the business; they take care of bookkeeping and secretarial duties. Lusain understands his funeral homes are making a difference, “If I can just take 10 minutes to remind them that we enjoyed this person’s life for a while and we can’t take that for granted, it does make this sad and grievous moment go by better.”
