Al Roker Sends Bold Message About Weight Loss Drugs Like Ozempic
Al Roker
Al Roker who has been open about his personal weight loss journey over the years, had a straightforward message for people criticizing those using weight loss drugs like Ozempic: 'Stay within your lane.'
"No shame, no game. Just stay within your lane and don’t give anybody a hard time," the Today anchor said to those who try to shame people using Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro or other medications.
He added, "Everybody’s struggling with it and we’re still trying to figure it out," referring to a person's personal health.
Roker's comments came about in connection with Oprah Winfrey's new special, An Oprah Special: Shame, Blame and the Weight Loss Revolution, which discusses obesity as a disease and the rise of weight loss drug treatments.
In 2022, Roker—who has gone through his own weight loss journey over the years—marked 20 years since getting his gastric bypass surgery, sharing a video of his old jeans and writing, "It’s still a struggle but I’m never going back. I may have setbacks but I work on it ever day."
Hard to believe it was 20 years ago today, I wore these jeans to my #gastricbypass at 340 lbs and here I am today. It’s still a struggle but I’m never going back. I may have setbacks but I work on it ever day pic.twitter.com/9YJgrVxN6Z

These days, Roker often talks about personal health, bringing fans along as he goes on his walks, whether it's outside in the brisk weather with wife Deborah Roberts or on his treadmill, in order to motivate others to do the same or simply adopt a positive attitude.
Roker invites others to join walking challenges each month, and he even completed 100 miles in 19 days this January. While celebrating the milestone, he encouraged everyone to continue to push themselves, little by little.
"It adds up. Park a little further from the store or go walk to your neighbor instead of driving. It’s the little things that make a difference," the 69-year-old said.
While Roker has reportedly not used Ozempic or one of the similar drugs for weight loss, Winfrey and many other celebrities have openly talked about using them, including Sharon Osbourne, Heather Gay, and Tracy Morgan.
