Al Roker And 60 Celebrity Chefs Will Attempt A Sandwich-Making Record During This Year's 'Rokerthon'
It's hard to believe it, but it's finally time for another Rokerthon. Fans of The TODAY Show will know that this is the event where beloved weatherman Al Roker aims to set a new world record. In the past, he's done everything from set a record for the longest uninterrupted live TV weather report to help set a record for the largest game of freeze tag ever. But this year, the challenge is getting a lot more delicious and it involves some of your favorite celebrity chefs.
This year, Al and more than 60 chefs will participate in a virtual sandwich-making relay to set a Guinness World Records title for, well, most people in a live online sandwich-making relay! Besides Al, you'll certainly recognize some familiar faces including Lidia Bastianich, Bobby Flay, Priya Krishna, Carla Hall, Sandra Lee, Marcus Samuelsson, Martha Stewart, Molly Yeh, and Andrew Zimmern.
The way it works is each participant will share a recipe and then build their original sandwich, which must include at least two traditional or classic ingredients, not including condiments, placed between two slices of bread. Participants in the relay must compile a sandwich that qualifies before the next person can start building theirs.
But let's not get too serious—we're talking sandwiches here! We got the inside scoop on some of the sandwiches that are being made. For example, Marcus Samuelsson will be cooking up a Crispy Bird Dog with Shado Beni Aioli, Alex Guarnaschelli will be making a Classic Turkey Sandwich, and Sandra Lee will be putting together a French Chicken Avocado Sandwich. I AM SO HUNGRY.
