The Academy Kicked Out Bill Cosby and Roman
The Academy Awards might be months away, but someone at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences deserves a statue. On Thursday, the organization-which is behind the famous awards ceremony- announced it will expel Bill Cosby and Roman Polanski from its membership.
According to Jezebel, the Academy voted to expel the actor and director on May 1st, citing the organization's Standards of Conduct. A statement from the organization read: "The Board continues to encourage ethical standards that require members to uphold the Academy’s values of respect for human dignity."
In late April, Cosby was found guilty of aggravated indecent assault, and a number of women have come forward accusing him of drugging and assaulting them. Polanski was arrested for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in 1977, however he fled the country before final sentencing, according to The Guardian.
The Academy also expelled Harvey Weinstein in October after a number of women accused him of sexual assault and sexual harassment.
