90 patriotic baby names for boys and girls: Let freedom ring!
Patriotic baby names are the perfect choice for a newborn of proud parents and proud Americans. Patriotic baby names are also a great choice for a baby born on or near any national holiday, like the Fourth of July.
If you’re looking for a name as American as apple pie, you could of course pick America. And you’d be in good company — this pretty name was the one given to America Ferrera, the actress famous for her role as Betty Suarez in “Ugly Betty” and as Gloria in last summer’s box office movie hit, “Barbie.”
But the actress’s name wasn’t an homage to Old Glory. Ferrera told Time, “I’m named after my mother. In Latin America, April 14 is Day of the Americas, and my mother was born on April 14, so my grandpa named her America.”
There are plenty of patriotic baby name options beyond America, of course. You could choose a name for a historical figure, like Betsy, in honor of Besty Ross, credited with sewing the first United States flag. Ben is a popular baby boy name and could be a nod to Ben Franklin, one of America’s founding fathers.
Liberty is a patriotic name and has ranked in the top 1,000 baby girl names every year since 2001, according to the Social Security Administration. Belle also has patriotic connotations in the context of the Liberty Bell, and is a bit less popular than Liberty.
For more patriotic baby girl name options, look to former first ladies. Jackie, Eleanor, Hillary, Martha and Abigail are all options, plus many more. Baby boy names can easily be selected from former presidents — George, Abraham, Ulysses and James are all options ranging widely in popularity.
Another idea for patriotic baby names are city or state names. Georgia, Brooklyn, Austin and Virginia are all options. According to the Social Security Administration, Georgia was a name that peaked in the 1940s and has enjoyed a resurgence to a similar level of popularity in the last few years. Brooklyn, which had its peak in 2018, has appeared in the top 100 names rankings for many years. Austin cracked the top 10 most popular names ranking in 1995, but has generally been on the decline in popularity since. Virginia peaked at number 21 in 1940, and is ranked 540 as of 2022.
