This $88 Million Miami Beach Mansion Will Wind You Up With a Guggenheim-Inspired Spiral Staircase
Names that ring bells like Jennifer Lopez, Gloria Estefan, and Madonna have famously owned homes on Miami Beach’s man-made Star Island. However, at the northern end of town, guard-gated La Gorce Island also, if more quietly, attracts its fair share of notable residents, including Good Will Hunting star Matt Damon as well as Billy Joel and Cher. One of the island enclave’s waterfront estates, which takes its design cues from Frank Lloyd Wright’s most famous building in New York City, is now up for grabs for $88 million. The property is listed with Nelson Gonzalez of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices EWM Realty.
Dubbed Okto, the two-story residence and separate guest house were completed in 2008 and hit the market that same year for $25 million. The Kollmanns, a wealthy German family, scooped up the nearly 16,000-square-foot home for $15.7 million in 2010 from its developer, Todd Michael Glaser, records show. The 1.1-acre property counts 260 feet of water frontage, in addition to a 100-foot pool, two docks, and a sandy man-made beach. The owners made numerous improvements over the years, including replacing the floors, installing a new roof, and refreshing the landscaping.

The Kollmanns primarily live in Europe, the Wall Street Journal reports, and Okto was used as a vacation home over the years. They initially tried to sell it in December of 2020 for $38.5 million, believing they wouldn’t be able to use it due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After changing their minds and taking it off the market in early 2021, the property has re-emerged for sale once again, albeit with a significant price jump.
Beyond the contemporary facade, natural light floods the main residence’s interiors. The airy, open floor plan is subtly highlighted throughout by soaring ceilings and stone floors, and the massive great room, which stretches to 100 feet long, is one of the main spaces where those details aid in framing vistas of the swimming pool and sparkling waters of Biscayne Bay.
A stone-clad wall divides the main living and dining, which also feature broad expanses of wall space for displaying artwork, while a pair of glowing orb lights hang over one of the all-stainless-steel kitchen’s two islands. Along with bay and skyline views, the sculptural staircase inspired by the iconic winding ramp in Frank Lloyd Wright’s Guggenheim Museum in New York proves to be the pad’s most captivating feature.

The waterfront scenery takes center stage in the otherwise sedate primary terrace with sliding glass doors that open out to a private terrace. Eight other bedrooms and a dozen bathrooms are divvied up between the main house, a separate guest house, and dedicated staff quarters. Other notable features include an entertainment room, a coral keystone-paved roof deck, and a five-car garage.
