6 Things Everyone in Paris is Wearing Right Now
We think it’s fair to say that American women, no matter how stylish, can never compete with the French.
After all, there’s a certain essence to their approach that is effortlessly cool…like, at all times. We’ve peeked into the sartorial choices of the women of Brooklyn and the ladies of Los Angeles, and now we’ve turned to our Paris-based cohort to see what’s en vogue. Between street style observations and insights from Virginia Loweman, MTV social media manager and MFA candidate whose studying in Paris (and has agreed to be our correspondent on the ground), we think we have a pretty good idea of what women in the city of lights are into these days. And spoiler: It’s très chic.
RELATED: 5 Things Everyone in Brooklyn is Wearing Right Now
1. Oversized (But Feminine) Blazers
When it comes to outerwear, the blazer is the gift that keeps on giving. The silhouette of the moment is oversized with a fit that’s reminiscent of the androgenous 80s approach. Women in Paris are adding a feminine touch with a sultry bralette or fitted tank top.

2. Heavily Saturated Hues
Fall 2021 is all about saturated hues (think bold, highly pigmented, rich colors) and we must say that Parisian women are doing the trend justice. Like this stunning dress above, deep jewel tones are taking over and offering up a much-needed break from the muted, neutral toned loungewear we’ve been stuck in for the past year.

3. Bold Suiting
There are suits and then there are suits. Street style photos from neighborhoods like The Marais and The Latin Quarter show that the look de rigueur is all about pinstripes or loud hues and a relaxed, slouchy fit. The best way to make this look cool (and not like you ransacked your Dad’s suit closet) is to pair it with sleek, pointy heels, a statement bag and stand-out accessories like the shades seen above or even your favorite low-hanging necklace.

4. Mini Dresses
The first thing that came to mind when we asked Loweman what she was seeing out on the streets of Paris? “Lots of mini dresses!” We’re loving the super frilly look pictured above for its dainty vibe juxtaposed with a smart and sophisticated black and white color palette.
Get the Look: Shopbop ($245), Saks Fifth Avenue ($375), Revolve ($198)
5. Biker Jackets
We know, we know: It’s hardly surprising that cool French women are rocking motos. But here’s how they’re styling them in 2021: With simple yet flirty tops, tailored pants or jeans and casual footwear. In the post-pandemic world, moto-jackets are such a great way to look like you care without actually putting much effort into your ensemble.
Get the Look: Madewell ($525), Revolve ($198), Nordstrom ($325)
6. Trainers
Loweman reports that these workhorses aren’t going anywhere, and that “lots of pumas and Stan Smiths” are shuffling their way across the bridges of The Seine. Whether the rest of the ensemble is an all-out fashion moment (per the above) or a casual jeans-and-tee-shirt look, a good, comfy sneaker is always a win.
