The 4 New NYFW Designers You Need to Know About
New York Fashion Week is just the beginning of a monthlong series, with legs also in London, Milan and Paris. But what makes NYFW so special is that it connects designers at all career levels— from students to veterans — and they have a chance to show their new collections to a wide audience of editors, buyers, influencers and celebrities (if they’re lucky).
With the creation of platforms like Made and VFiles, which are incubators for emerging talent, NYFW has supported new, emerging designers, such as Chromat, Gypsy Sport and Jonathan Simkhai, with such necessities as a venue and publicity. In part, thanks to this backing, the four designers also went on to become finalists in the 2015 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, a prestigious grant and mentorship program, with the latter two taking home first place. Remember these names! They could be the next Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein or Alexander Wang, who all kick-started their big, beautiful careers in the Big Apple.
