3 Rules for Picking the Perfect White Paint
If my Pinterest home board says anything about me, above all it speaks to my love of white. To me, it's anything but boring—but choosing just the right white for your space? Can be quite a challenge, or worse, a disappointment if you don't get it right. Which is exactly why we're taking pointers from the pros at Blackband Design. Grab their tips below and head here for more ways to find the right white!
ONE. The surfaces in the room make a difference and one of the largest surfaces is the floor. If your floor is travertine or wood with red tones in it for example you may find yourself seeing green as your eye naturally seeks the complement. Try something warmer with less gray undertone like Dunn Edwards Antique Paper DE6218.
TWO. In rooms that have a tremendous amount of sunlight light you may want to go a little darker to soften the glare of a stark white wall. Be aware though that in other rooms of the home this color will look very different. We like a crisp white like DEW381 Droplets for the fresh airy appearance and they are a great backdrop for some of the more vivid teal and indigo colors we like to use.
THREE. For walls and ceilings in living spaces we like low sheens like flat or velvet as they are softer, less reflective, on the eyes and hide imperfections on the wall. The shinier you go the better your drywaller must be. In bathrooms or kitchens a higher sheen is better for cleanability. In most cases we like to use bright white Dunn Edwards DEW380 in a 20 sheen to set off the shade we've chosen for the walls.
