12.3 million people watched Travis Scott’s Fortnite concert
Could this be the future of concerts?
Rapper Travis Scott teamed up with Epic Games for a virtual “Astronomical Concert” on April 23, where a whopping 12.3 million people tuned in.
The artist made ample use of virtual reality’s advantages over the physical world. The concert featured a gigantic avatar of Scott towering over Fortnite players and teleporting around the virtual venue. The visuals were colorful and surreal, matching up with Scott’s movements.

Scott performed hits like “Sicko Mode,” “Highest in the Room” and “Goosebumps” during his 10 minute set.
“Honestly, today was one of the most inspiring days,” Scott tweeted after the show. “Love every single one of you guys. And I know times are weird for us. But for one moment to be able to have the ragers to rage where ever you are is amazing. Love you guys with all my body! Gang.”

Fans — or those who are curious — can watch the concert in full on YouTube. Scott’s next virtual show is on April 25 — to access the in-game concert venue, users can download Fortnite for free on iOS, Android, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC and Mac.
Players can make in-game purchases to upgrade their experience, but general admission is free.
Once the game is installed, choose Battle Royale and tap “change” to enter Astronomical game mode. Players will have to navigate the virtual world to locate the venue. It’s north of the Sweaty Sands on a tropical beach, according to Complex. Users will have to swim toward the middle of the island. When the timer hits 0 the concert will begin after a short intro.
