2 SC hotels rank among 100 best in the world for 2024 — one has only been open a year
South Carolina has two hotels considered among the best in the world — one of which has only been open a year.
Popular travel site, Travel+Leisure, recently unveiled its top 100 best hotels in the world for 2024. Voted on by its readers, the favorites list includes hotels that span 38 countries.
Hotels in places like India and Southeast Asia rank among the highest scoring spots this year, along with 16 U.S. properties.
“At each hotel, voters were wowed by the style and the service of the top 100: Every winner scored higher than 97 on our 100-point survey,” Travel+Leisure wrote.
More than 186,000 Travel+Leisure voters completed this year’s hotel survey and over 700,000 votes were cast across 8,700 properties. Hotels were classified as either resort hotel, city hotel, inn or safari lodge and were ranked on rooms/facilities, location, service, food and value.

Hotel Hartness
Hotel Hartness in Greenville ranked 24th on the list of best hotels in the world. The hotel opened its doors just about a year ago, but has already made an impression on many visitors. The worldwide ranking makes 73-suite, family-owned hotel the best resort in South Carolina, Travel+Leisure states.
“Inspired by the design of the Hartness family’s own home, the property is modern yet welcoming, featuring a full-service spa and two dining options,” Travel+Leisure wrote.
The hotel offers a variety of indoor and outdoor venues that can be used for small-to-medium-sized weddings, meetings or other special events. Guests also have access to a luxurious spa with six treatment rooms.
The Willcox
The Willcox in Aiken ranked 75th on the list this year. With a heaping dose of old Southern charm, this former estate with its 23 rooms and suites has been accommodating visitors for more than a century.
A top-rated kitchen, a lobby bar, a full service salon and spa are among the amenities offered at the hotel. Other offerings include a cocktail-making course, a a concierge-arranged picnic basket to take off-site and a couples massage.
