Sister Wives

If you hated saying bye-bye to Nashville, then say howdy to this new country music drama, starring country hitmaker Trace Adkins and Oscar winner Susan Sarandon as a power couple atop a troubled musical dynasty. WEDNESDAY, Sept. 14
The Handmaid’s Tale
Season five of the hit dystopian drama finds June (Elisabeth Moss) struggling to redefine her identity and purpose, while fighting Gilead from a distance with Luke (O-T Fagbene) and Moira (Samira Wiley) and making plans to reunite with Hannah (Jordana Blake) (Hulu).
Sins of Our Mother
Documentary looks at the troubling real-life case of Lori Fallow, who became the most notorious mother in America when she was charged, tried and jailed—awaiting trail—on charges of murdering the two youngest of her two children, her fourth husband and her fifth husband’s wife (Netflix).
THURSDAY, Sept. 15
Vampire Academy
Based on the YA paranormal romantic fiction novels of Richelle Mead, this new streaming series—about relationships, death, sex and scandal inside the walls of a British institute for the training of vampires—stars Daniela Nieves, Sisi Stringer and Kieron Moore (Peacock).
White Sands
Danish streaming series about an undercover expert (Carsten Bjornlund) and a homicide detective (Marie Bach Hansen) sent to investigate the murder of a young German woman while posing as husband and wife (Topic).
NEW ON DVD
Director Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis (Warner Bros. Home Entertainment), a lavishly epic exploration of the life and music of Elvis Presley, arrives with a load of bonus features. There’s a making-of doc, a feature the movie’s over-the-top style, and a look at filming locations in Australia that doubled for the American South.
The late horror maestro George (Night of the Living Dead) Romero made an early movie, on commission from the Lutheran Society (!), called The Amusement Park, and it’s now been remastered and released on DVD. It’s a wild-ride allegory about the ravages of getting old and aging, and horror fans will dig it for seeing how the director’s style and sensibilities were unnervingly intact, even back in 1975.
AT THE MOVIES
In Barbarian, a young woman (Georgia Campbell) finds herself in a real-life nightmare when she spends the night in a house with a stranger. With Bill Skarsg?rd (the evil clown from It) and Justin Long.
Brahmastra Part One: Shiva
This cosmic adventure swirls around an Indian DJ who finds a strange connection to fire—and a supernatural weapon capable of destroying the universe. Starring Amitabh Bachchan and her husband, Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor.
