12 Netflix Original Movies That Are Actually Just Terrible
The Silence (2019)
A family (Stanley Tucci and Kiernan Shipka) seeks refuge after the world is invaded by creatures who hunt prey by sound. Even though the film appears to have an interesting plot, the execution is less than enthralling – which probably explains why it sat on a shelf for over a year. And if we're being honest, A Quiet Place did it better.
Secret Obsession (2019)
Have you ever wondered what would happen if Netflix made a Lifetime original movie? Well, Secret Obsession pretty much answers that very calling. The film centers on a woman (Brenda Song) who gets struck by a car. When she wakes up in the hospital with amnesia, she is greeted by a suave and handsome man (Mike Vogel) who introduces himself as her husband. But as the two spend more time together, she soon discovers that his caring behavior has a sinister motive. Over 40 million people watched the thriller during its first month of release, but we're not sure how many of them actually stuck around until the end.
Cloverfield Paradox (2018)
The sci-fi film, which centers on a group of scientists stuck in a spaceship as war erupts on Earth, was originally set to have a theatrical release. However, Paramount Pictures sold the film to Netflix, and it took a massive stunt to get viewers to tune into the third entry of the Cloverfield franchise. The streaming giant dropped a teaser trailer during the Super Bowl announcing that the film would premiere immediately following the big game.
Sextuplets (2019)
When a father-to-be (Marlon Wayans) discovers that he was born a sextuplet, he embarks on a journey to reunite with the rest of his siblings. Wayans takes on the role of all six siblings, but not even the funnyman himself can help the 14% critic score and 38% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
True Memoirs of an International Assassin (2016)
The lines of fiction and reality blur when an author (Kevin James) finds himself thrust into the world of one of his stories. A remake of a 1973 French film, the movie currently holds a zero percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. Ouch.
The After Party (2018)
An aspiring rapper (Kyle Harvey) gets the opportunity to turn his luck around when his best friend gets them into an NYC after party that could prove to be life-changing. But not even famous cameos from Wiz Khalifa, French Montana, and Young M.A. saved this flick from spinning a zero percent critic score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Ridiculous 6 (2015)
The four-picture deal between Adam Sandler and Netflix proved to be a lucrative contract worth $250 million. His first movie as part of the deal was The Ridiculous 6, a comedy western about an outlaw raised by Native Americans. Critics tore the film apart, giving it a zero percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, but fans were slightly kinder, as it holds a 34% audience score.
Brain on Fire (2018)
A young and ambitious journalist for the New York Post (Chloe Grace Moretz) begins to experience erratic new behavior that is linked to a rare neurological disease. The film is based on a memoir by Susannah Cahalan, but the adaptation gets lost in translation.
Father of the Year (2018)
It's dad vs. dad when two soon-to-be college students argue over who has the better father. Here, David Spade's deadbeat character squares up against Nat Faxon's submissive Mr. Nice Guy for a match that earned the flick a zero percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Enter the Anime (2019)
Anime fans were left disappointed by this American-Japanese documentary, which holds a zero percent score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Naked (2017)
A man (Marlon Wayans) is forced to relive the hours leading up to his wedding over and over again until he is able to get it right. The movie takes a page right out of the Groundhog Day playbook but doesn't manage to hit the same marks as the comedy classic.
The Coldest Game (2019)
A math genius (Bill Pullman) finds himself thrown into a dangerous game of espionage during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. Pullman replaced actor William Hurt as the lead, following an off-set injury. Unfortunately, critics agree that this case file is better left closed.
All Netflix, No Chill.
