100 baby girl names that start with 'A'
Girls with A-names are born to lead.
Historically, baby names that begin with “A” are consistent front-runners. Amelia, Ava, Ashley, Alexis, Amanda, Amy and Angela have landed on the Social Security Administration's "Top Five Names" list from 1923 to 2022.
"Names that start with a vowel are popular today because they lighten and brighten a name’s sound," Laura Wattenberg, the founder of Namerology, tells TODAY.com. "The smooth beginning also sets up the liquid flow of names like Aaliyah and Amelia."
Wattenberg adds: "The letter 'A' in particular is full of positive connotations. It’s the first among letters, in every way: first in the alphabet, first in any list or lineup, the top grade in school. That’s a lot of uplifting energy, and it shines through when you see the written name. So it’s not surprising that A is #1 in baby names, too — America’s favorite initial for girls’ names, by a mile."
