Congratulations are in order for popular beauty vlogger Shayla Mitchell, who last week became Maybelline New York’s first-ever influencer to collaborate with the brand on a product launch. The collection will include limited-edition mascaras and a highlighter palette.
Shortly following the announcement of the new “Maybelline x Shayla” collaboration, fans erupted with joy. One person shared her admiration on Twitter by posting the caption: “In 100 years of Maybelline’s business, their FIRST collaboration is with a beautiful, black woman.”
Mitchell may be the “first ever” for Maybelline, but one would hope that there will be many more to come. While there haven’t been a large number of campaigns featuring women of color, through the years other standout beauty brand campaigns have made strides to put women of color at the forefront.
Ahead, we list nine that we all should continue to be celebrate.
