For any cold-weather outdoor activity—be it an ice-skating adventure, a fall hayride, or a football tailgate—I love bringing a thermos full of spiked coffee or hot chocolate along with me (whenever it’s appropriate to be drinking, of course!). Not only does the added liquor provide a flavor kick, but it gives a toasty-warm feeling—and in these temps, anything helps!
When it comes to picking a liquor for your drink, that depends entirely upon your personal preference. For coffee, I like adding a coffee-flavored liquor (Kahlua, Patron XO Cafe Dark), an Irish cream (Bailey’s even has some different flavored options), or whiskey. For hot chocolate, there are several options as well, and everyone has a different opinion on what tastes best. Example: My mom always goes for the peppermint or butterscotch schnapps to spike her cocoa, but my dad likes chocolate liquors such as Godiva’s, and my personal favorite is adding a horchata liquor (RumChata, for example) for a little cinnamon kick or a hazelnut liquor (a.k.a. Frangelico) for a little nuttiness.

And, of course, you could go even fancier and try making one of these tasty cocktails:
Caramel Irish Coffee
1/2 part 2 Gingers Irish whiskey
1/2 part Bailey’s Caramel Irish Cream
Coffee
Whipped Cream
Pour hot coffee into a warmed glass until it is about 3/4 full. Blend in whiskey. Top with Irish cream by pouring gently over the back of spoon. Add whipped cream for garnish and serve hot.

Cafe Loco
1 1/2 parts Sauza Blue Reposado 100% agave tequila
1/2 part Kamora coffee liqueur
4 parts coffee
2 teaspoons cinnamon sugar (1 part cinnamon, 4 parts sugar) plus more for dusting
Whipped cream
Cinnamon stick for garnish (optional)
Combine the hot coffee and tequila. Mix in cinnamon and sugar until dissolved. Float whipped cream on top and dust with cinnamon-sugar mixture. Garnish with cinnamon sticks.
Spiced Hot Chocolate
2 ounces Southern Comfort Gingerbread Spice
8 ounces hot chocolate
Pour Southern Comfort Gingerbread Spice into a mug of hot chocolate and stir. Garnish with whipped cream. Holiday party tip: To convert the recipe from a cocktail to a pitcher, substitute cups for ounces.
Spiked Hot Chocolate
1 part Milagro Anejo tequila
3 parts whole milk
1 disk Taza Guajillo Chili Chocolate Mexicano
Chop or grate chocolate disk into small pieces. Bring milk to a boil, turn off stove, and add chocolate and tequila until fully integrated. Pour into mug and garnish with whipped cream and chili flakes.
