Young Thug YSL Trial Delayed After Co-Defendant Is Stabbed
Young Thug’s trial has been delayed until January 2, 2024 after a co-defendant was stabbed.
According to the New York Times, Shannon Stillwell was stabbed in jail on Sunday (Dec. 10). Stillwell was locked up at the Fulton County jail at the time of the incident.
Fox 5 Atlanta reported that another inmate, Willie Brown, was the attacker. Brown allegedly knifed Shannon during a fight between the men after being placed in the same vicinity. While the fight’s cause is unknown, Brown has a history of violent behavior. The outlet reported that Brown was arrested in 2020 for numerous charges. These charges included murder, cruelty to children, and aggravated assault.
Judge Ural Glanville announced that the trial would be placed on an extended holiday break due to the uncertainty surrounding Shannon’s condition.
“Unfortunately, [Shannon Stillwell’s] medical condition still exists. And given the length of time that we’re probably gonna have to address that, it might just be more prudent to recess you and give you an early recess instead of recessing you this Friday as the court’s plan was originally,” Judge Glanville said. “I’m gonna recess you for the holidays today.”
Stillwell’s attorney, Max Schardt, asserted that they would not be using Stillwell’s condition to delay the trial. However, they would listen to the doctors on what was best for Shannon.
“Out of respect for Shannon’s privacy, I will not go into specifics about his health other than to say that I was happy to be able to see him and converse with him this afternoon,” Schardt said. “I encouraged him to rest, as he will need to be strong as we continue to fight the false allegations contained in the RICO indictment. We have never and will not be asking for a delay in this trial, but also recognize that the doctors will let us know what is best for Shannon in the immediate future. I hope to reunite Shannon with his family and loved ones in short order.”
Stillwell and Young Thug are two of six defendants in the YSL RICO trial. The pair both face multiple charges. Stillwell faces a murder charge for the killing of Donovan Thomas.
Meanwhile, Thug, né Jeffery Williams, is being accused of leading YSL—an alleged gang. Prosecutors claim the rapper has been connected to various killings, shootings, robberies, and more for over ten years across Georgia.
