Yahoo readers weigh in after T.I. defends 'hymengate' on 'Red Table Talk'
Rapper T.I. continues to make headlines after coming under fire for an interview on a podcast called Ladies Like Us, during which he revealed he and his daughter take “yearly trips to the gynecologist to check her hymen.”
When T.I. sat down with Jada Pinkett Smith on her Facebook Watch show, Red Table Talk, he backpedaled on his previous comments—a controversy he refers to as “hymengate.”
“From a place of truth, I began to embellish and exaggerate. I think that a lot of people kind of took it extremely literal,” he told Pinkett Smith.
The star also clarified that he wasn’t present in the room during these examinations, saying “That is an assumption. that is a falsity.” He also noted, “I never said that her mother wasn’t present.”
He added, “She did have a problem with me talking about it and I understand that, and I am incredibly apologetic to her for that.”
His 18-year-old daughter, Deyjah Harris, unfollowed him on social media after he made his original comments.
T.I. also defended his actions, saying “There’s no such thing as overprotective.”
