WWE NXT Hits And Misses (4/9/24)
WWE NXT presented Stand & Deliver fallout from the Performance Center this week. The show featured several surprise appearances. New feuds were teased in what was a solid episode from the White and Gold Brand.
NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez, Trick Williams, Natalya, and Bron Breakker among others worked the April 9, 2024, episode of NXT. Let’s take a look at some of the biggest hits and misses from the show.
Miss – Lyra Valkyria forgets to sell the attack
Tatum Paxley’s obsession with Lyra Valkyria cost the latter her title at NXT Stand & Deliver. Lyra asked Roxanne to give her a rematch for the title this week on WWE NXT. Tatum intervened, but Lyra asked her to stay away because she wanted to take Roxanne on her own.
Tatum ultimately attacked Lyra by slamming her arm-first into the ringside steel steps rendering her unable to compete. Apparently, Lyra forgot the script and had to be reminded by an official to “sell your arm.”
Hit – Je’Von Evans makes WWE NXT debut
A video package hyping up Je’Von Evans’ NXT TV debut aired at Stand & Deliver. The former Jay Malachi took on SCRYPTS this week. Both men exchanged a fast-paced offense in the early goings of the match.
Evans got the momentum with a flurry of offense. He delivered a moonsault and corkscrew combo to pick up the win. The 19-year-old star left the ring just in time to evade an attack from OTM.

Miss – Thea Hail walks out on Andre Chase
I feel like the Chase U stuff has gone on for way too long especially after NXT Stand & Deliver. Thea Hail and her partners defeated Team Jayne at the PLE. We saw Andre Chase gave an Honorary Chase U degree to Kelani Jorgan.
Jacy Jayne interrupted the moment and dropped a bombshell on Thea Hail. I believe this was the second time we saw Hail walk out on Andre Chase. It seems the main roster doesn’t need new tag teams at the moment and that’s why Shawn Michaels is dragging the whole Chase U run.
Hit – New NXT Tag Team Champions
The WolfDogs retained their NXT Tag Team Championship against Axiom and Nathan Frazer at Stand & Deliver. The two teams met in an All or Nothing Rematch this week on NXT. Both teams worked a fast-paced match that had shades of their previous encounter.
The challengers finally captured the titles after Frazer hit Corbin with a Phoenix Splash for the win. This turned out to be Bron Breakker’s final NXT match. The former two-time NXT is set for a full-time run on SmackDown.
Miss – Karrion Kross is back in WWE NXT
It seems WWE wants to rebuild Karrion Kross from the ground-up. The former NXT Champion returned to the brand along with Authors of Pain. The Final Testament attacked new tag team champions Axiom and Nathan Frazer following their win over The WolfDogs.
Kross was a major Triple H project during the Black and Gold Era of NXT. However, he hasn’t really got over with the fans as a heel in his second WWE stint. It remains to be seen if The Final Testament find success in NXT.
Hit – Ivar drops Oba Femi
Oba Femi stood tall in the aftermath of an impressive NXT North American Championship defense at Stand & Deliver. The champion found his next challenger in Ivar of The Viking Raiders this week on WWE NXT.
The champion tried to take out his next opponent but Ivar’s agility helped him avoid Oba’s offense. The Viking took out the Rule with a huge springboard clothesline. We might get a match between the two goliaths at NXT Spring Breakin’.
Miss – Ridge Holland is back in action?
I’m struggling to make sense of the whole Ridge Holland storyline. He announced his decision to step away form the ring indefinitely on March 26. Now, he’s set for a match against Joaquin Wilde of the lWO. The two will collide next week on NXT.
The whole angle seems like it’s being rushed. NXT should’ve built Ridge’s heel turn over the next couple of weeks instead of making him attack Joe Gacy at Stand & Deliver kick off show. Let’s see where this all goes next.
Hit – Major announcement on WWE NXT
This week’s episode of NXT gave us two major announcements. First, we got the NXT Championship match between Ijla Dragunov and Trick Williams at NXT Spring Breakin’. Carmelo Hayes attacked both men after the announcement.
Melo delivered a huge announcement of his own. The former NXT Champion will face Williams inside a Steel Cage next Tuesday. NXT is building Williams as the next big babyface. He survives Melo next week and dethrones The Czar at NXT Spring Breakin’.
That’s not a prediction. That’s a spoiler!
