Woolsey Fire Update: Hollywood Salutes First Responders as High Winds Threaten Blaze’s Spread
As notable celebrities like Lady Gaga and Mark Hamill pay tribute to the firefighters battling the Woolsey fire and others mourn the loss of their homes, Los Angeles County Fire Chief Daryl Osby warned on Sunday, “There’s not going to be any relief in this firefight,” ABC reported.
According to officials, the 83,275-acre fire near the border of Ventura and Los Angeles counties, which has destroyed 177 structures and prompted the evacuation of 265,000 residents, is only 10 percent contained as of Sunday morning.
With 57,000 homes still threatened, the Santa Ana winds have picked up, threatening the spread of the blaze in many directions, including eastward toward the San Fernando Valley.
David Gomberg, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard, told the Los Angeles Times that the winds are expected to gust as high as 60 m.p.h. in the mountains and 50 m.p.h. in the coastal and valley areas and should continue through Tuesday evening.

“The potential dangers would be very rapid fire spread and extreme fire behavior,” including possible fire tornadoes, Gomberg told the Times. Live Science wrote that fire tornadoes, also known as fire whirls, “are created by hot, dry air rising rapidly from the ground” creating vertical columns of fast spinning fire.
Meanwhile, celebs who were evacuated from the areas took to social media to give fans a status report and to pay tribute to the brave firefighters who continue to put their lives on the line.
Just an update: Bleak House (I am told this morning) seems to be fine. Just minor smoke damage. I am aware about how much this fire has taken, how much has been lost- this is humbling and a blessing.

Good news! Remember these llamas on the beach? They're safe & sound & have been reunited with their owner. We needed something cheerful. #WoolseyFire pic.twitter.com/HM2MSjTBIb

Director Scott Derrickson and Robin Thicke weren’t so lucky, as their Malibu homes were destroyed. Thicke says on Instagram that and he and his family are “contemplating next move.”

A friend drove to my home while it was smoldering and took this mesmerizing pic. The interior is cooked but the sole fireman needs to ensure that other homes in my neighborhood don’t catch fire.
Thank God and this firefighter, they didn’t. pic.twitter.com/lXhTZQvYsq
