Wisconsin's Grace Girard is one of only two daters still vying for the heart of Farmer Brandon on 'Farmer Wants a Wife'
Warning: Spoilers from Episode 5 of Fox's "Farmer Wants a Wife" Season 2 that aired on Thursday, Feb. 29, ahead.
"Farmer Wants a Wife's" Brandon Rogers is down to just two daters. And, one of them is Wisconsin sweetheart Grace Girard.
During last week's episode, Rogers narrowed his daters down to four after having a pretty darn perfect date with Girard. In fact, it was so good it was brought up again on Thursday night's episode (more on that later).
"Sending somebody home was hard, but I really feel like the girls are going to have a little more opportunity for us to connect individually," Rogers said on the show. "Everybody's trying to get my attention, you know, so it's hard. And, there's the strain of farming, so I'm spread thin."
While Rogers' daters were raking leaves and wrangling ropes on his potato and barley farm in Colorado, Ty Ferrell's daters were helping him prep for the Ferrell Fall Classic, his annual roping competition and hoedown-themed mixer, in Missouri.
Season 2's farmers — there are four in total — and all of their remaining daters were invited to the event and went.
Remember Miley Cyrus' song "Hoedown Throwdown"? There was indeed a throwdown at the hoedown.
While Rogers got to Missouri with four ladies, he'd leave with just two.
Here's how it all went down:
Grace Girard and Brandon Rogers gushed about their date
Ferrell's daters hosted a get-together for all the daters while the farmers caught up on their own. When asked how his farm was doing, Rogers immediately brought up Girard.
"There was one girl, Grace, I took on my solo date last week, she said her best time was the little sunset kiss in the pickup date," he said, bashfully. "So that was good."
Back with the ladies, Girard was also gushing about the date.
"It was awesome," she said. "It was really romantic and sweet and ..."
"And, they kissed," interjected Melanie, who's dating Farmer Mitchell Kolinsky.
Or, how Girard put it last week: A kiss that was more than "a peck."
Cutting back to the farmers, Rogers said: "It was a good kiss, yeah."
Eeeeek! Yes, we got butterflies, too.
Farmer Brandon and dater Joy cozy on up
While watching and cheering on Ferrell in the roping competition, Joy turned to Rodgers and asked if he'd buy her a pony if she lived on the farm.
After a little flirty banter, he told Joy: "You're coming out of your shell today."
"I know!" she replied.
Rogers' dater Reba, who already had beef with Joy, did not like the "canoodling" one bit.
"He's eating it up like cake again and again and again," said Reba, who had gotten the first date with Rogers. "If he is into the things that I'm seeing that are so phony, then he's just probably not the one for me. I'm fine riding solo if that's what in the cards for me right now."
We reckon that's some serious foreshadowing.
With Brandon and Joy being 'inseparable' at the hoedown, Reba decided to leave the show
As Thomas Rhett's "Die A Happy Man" played, Rogers and Girard shared a dance. The next honors went to Joy.
"Brandon and Joy are inseparable, per usual," Reba said in a confessional. "Joy is shoving herself down his throat all the time. She also can't read the room, so she has no problem throwing herself in front of other women. If he's fooled by Joy, I can tell you, without a doubt, he's not the guy for me."
Dater Annellyse — who hadn't even gotten a one-on-one date with Rogers yet — said she wanted to feel desired and for Rogers to ask her to slow dance. But, with Rogers under Joy's spell, Annellyse wasn't getting any of that.
Neither was Reba. And she had enough.
"I'm out! I'm going home!" Reba yelled at the dance.
When show host Jennifer Nettles went to check on her, Reba said she didn't think love was in the cards for her there and thought it would be best for herself — and for everybody — if she left. While Reba thought she had great chemistry and potential with Rogers, she wasn't sure if he wanted a woman who would challenge him.
Nettles brought Rogers over to Reba, so she could share her decision with him. While he didn't see it coming, he apologized to her and said he felt they had a "great connection."
"I felt very strongly about you," he told Reba. "But obviously, I haven't filled your needs that you've been looking for. I'm just bummed it didn't work out."
And, that wouldn't be the only bummer for Rogers that night.
After not being picked for yet another solo date, Annellyse said goodbye to Farmer Brandon
While Annellyse gave her pitch to Rogers to pick her for the next solo date, he ultimately chose Joy.
That was Annellyse's final straw.
While Annellyse "learned so much" from Rogers and he brought out a "softer side" of her, she had been "really craving" one-on-one time with him.
"I think he has stronger connections here and I don't want to be in the way of that," she said in a confessional.
After sharing with a producer her decision to leave, the producer brought Rogers over so Annellyse could let him know.
"You are an amazing girl and I wish that we could've ended up on the same page, you know," Rogers told Annellyse. "But, I appreciate you coming to the farm and taking the time away from your life to try this out with me. And, I hope that you find what you're looking for and everything goes really good from here for you."
Annellyse wished him "nothing but the best" and said she was grateful she got to get to see the world through his eyes.
'Pretty bummed': Farmer Brandon reflects on losing two daters in one episode
"I really feel like, is it my fault? Did I do something wrong? Am I missing something?" Rogers said in a confessional. "I'm pretty bummed about it, but sometimes things don't go the way you want, and perseverance is what is important."
With that, the competition for Rogers' heart is left between Girard and Joy, who's about to have her first solo date.
