Wisconsinite Grace Girard's farmer adds another love interest on 'Farmer Wants a Wife'
Warning: Spoilers ahead from Episode 6 of Fox's "Farmer Wants a Wife" Season 2 that aired on Thursday, March 14.
A new dater has entered the chat.
Farmer Brandon Rogers got down to two daters — Wisconsinite Grace Girard is one of them — on the last episode of "Farmer Wants a Wife." In a major twist — courtesy of host and country star Jennifer Nettles — Rogers has opted to add another love interest into the mix.
Insert record scratch here.
Last episode, all of Season 2's farmers — there are four in total — and their remaining daters attended Farmer Ty Ferrell's roping competition and hoedown-themed mixer in Missouri. And, just about all of Rogers' attention went to dater Joy.
Two of Rogers' other daters, Reba and Annellyse, were over it and decided to head on home.
That left the competition for Rogers' heart between Girard and Joy. But, after Joy's solo date with Rogers this week, it was no longer all rainbows and butterflies.
While Girard hardly got any screen time on Episode 6, a heck of a lot went down for the farmer she's vying for. Here's a recap:
Rogers' solo date with Joy left him with 'reservations and concerns'
Back home sweet home at Rogers' potato and barley farm in Colorado, Girard asked Joy how she was feeling after the Missouri trip and the departure of their fellow daters.
Joy said it was "a little more peaceful," which Girard agreed with. After giving Girard a sneak peek of her "western girl" fit, it was time for Joy to go on her solo date with Rogers.
"Good luck, girly," Girard told her. You can take the girl out of the Midwest, but you can't take the Midwest nice out of the girl.
Rogers took Joy to The Colorado Farm Brewery to "discuss more things that are important to each other" and "open up an emotional connection."
As they played Jenga, Rogers asked Joy what if she had to do farm labor instead of being an X-ray tech. Apparently, the only thing stopping her is "a whole new wardrobe."
From there, it got pretty deep pretty fast.
"I know that you're, like, close with, like, your dad's side of the family, but are you still close with your mom's side of the family?" Joy asked him.
"I wouldn't say we're, like, super-close," Rogers said.
Rogers opened up to Joy about his parents' divorce. While his dad wanted to keep the family together, Rogers said, his mom decided to leave the farm and the family to "pursue the things she wanted to do."
"I definitely worry about, like, you put all this time and effort and love into your family, when at any moment, they could just be, like ..."
"Pick up and leave," Joy finished his sentence.
"Yeah, that's very disheartening," Rogers said.
He asked Joy what she thought about all of that and if it was concerning to her.
Her reply? Not what he was expecting. At all.
"I just feel like I'm so immune to everything," Joy said. "Me and my sister both, we don't feel anything ... But, maybe one day, I'll have a heart."
"That was kind of a weird energy exchange there," Rogers said in a confessional. "I wear my heart on my sleeve. I'm very empathetic. She was very, you know, evident, that she does not function that way. I definitely have my reservations and concerns going forward."
In a cutaway, Joy said the date "did not go well at all" and that she said some things she "probably shouldn't have."
Farmers could decide to add another dater to their crop
To make sure the farmers are "taking the process seriously," Nettles sent each of them a letter. And, boy, were they in for a surprise.
After getting to know them better, Nettles wrote, she invited another woman for each of the farmers to meet.
"Whether you invite her back to the farm is entirely up to you," Rogers read.
Blindsided, many of the farmers' daters felt the move was "unfair."
"Introducing a potential new lady to each farm will test the relationships they do have and really show them who their deepest connections are with," Nettles said on the show.
The farmers went on speed dates with the women Nettles picked for them. While Rogers is "very happy" with his two current daters, he felt this was a "perfect" opportunity.
Rogers met up with his new, potential dater Emerson, a college counselor from Iowa, at the Windsor Hotel and Dining Room. His first impressions: Very beautiful and inviting.
They bonded over small-town life and thumb-wrestled as the conversation flowed effortlessly. The vibes were indeed vibing.
In a confessional, Emerson called it a "match made in heaven."
"Emerson definitely brought a smile to my face and it stayed there the whole time," Rogers said. "So, now I feel like the perfect opportunity came up with another possible connection. So, it's exciting."
Rogers ultimately decided to invite her back to his farm — shocker — and she immediately accepted.
"I really think that Joy and Grace are going to be open to bringing Emerson into the house and including her in everything," Rogers said. "And then just getting to know her as well. I think it's gonna go good. But I've thought a lot of things were gonna go good in my life and they haven't, so, 'tis life."
Yeah, we're SURE the ladies you've been seeing will love that you brought in another person for them to compete with. Guess time will tell.
What did the other farmers decide to do? We won't know until the next episode.
But, by the looks of the preview, Girard will be getting some alone time with Rogers — and another smooch.
