Why Savannah Guthrie Is Missing from 'Today' Spot
Savannah Guthrie was noticeably absent from her usual seat behind the Today show desk this week, prompting some questions about the journalist's whereabouts.
During the Tuesday, July 23 episode of the NBC talk show, co-host Hoda Kotb was instead joined by colleague Craig Melvin during her usual broadcast with Guthrie, who was said to have the morning off.
While Kotb, 59, didn't give a specific reason for her co-host's absence, it's possible that Guthrie, 52, is already on her way to Europe to cover the 2024 Paris Olympics, which kick off in just a few days.
The Mostly What God Does author already gave fans a glimpse at what the NBC Olympics coverage in Paris might look like, as she, Kotb, Melvin and their co-star Al Roker were recently transported to the French capital in a new video, thanks to a little bit of video editing and photoshop.
In the clip shared to Guthrie's Instagram page on Monday, July 22, the Today show cast could be seen standing outside the NBC studio before they were photoshopped onto the streets of Paris, including one shot right in front of the Eiffel Tower.
"We are so ready!! @nbcolympics," Guthrie captioned her Instagram post on Monday.
On Tuesday, Guthrie seemed to hint that she was making her way abroad ahead of the Games, once again taking to Instagram to tease NBC's Olympics coverage.
"Paris, here we come!!" she wrote in the caption of a video on Tuesday, which showed Guthrie and her Today colleagues rooting on the USA before the Olympics officially kick off on Friday, July 26.
