Why RHOSLC Season 5 Could Be Tough for Whitney Rose
The garden is in full bloom in Utah thanks to it being premiere week for the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. But I think Whitney Rose will be dealing with a few more thorns than usual. The blonde “bobblehead,” as Mary Cosby once dubbed her, has always been about making friends. But sometimes friendships fall to the wayside, as the new trailer recently showed. In a few scenes, Whitney seems to be struggling to keep her head above water. But will this season be a trial by fire for the fan favorite, or will she come out smelling like roses?
It feels like Whitney Rose vs. everyone
Thanks to the explosive trailer, fans saw how the women of Salt Lake City are doing after the @realityvontease scandal, which shook them to the core. To quote my queen, Dorinda Medley, “Not well, b*tch.” Whitney seemed to be taking the brunt of the attacks as everyone was coming at her from multiple angles. In one scene, Lisa Barlow, Heather Gay, and Meredith Marks are all seen coming for Whitney. The mother of two can be heard saying, “I haven’t done anything but call you a villain.” Lisa, who hasn’t lost any rings as of yet, notes, “Game on.” Viewers aren’t exactly sure what the women are fighting over, but it is heated. Whitney is mid-conversation with a pointed finger as she tells the Vida Tequila owner, “I am not a liar. Do not come after my character.”
After Whitney claims she never lied, Heather starts to laugh uncontrollably. And it wasn’t a quite giggle; this, ladies and gents, was a tummy laugh. Heather takes to her confessional to bash Whit, claiming, “I love Whitney, but this is what drives me crazy. She spins the truth so it fits her own narrative where she can do no wrong. I’ve seen Whitney do this time and again, and it’s incredibly frustrating.” Yikes, it definitely feels like Whitney will have to go on an apology tour this season. Also, Whitney could have shut ‘ol black eye Heather down in a hot second if she had thought about it.
Whitney Rose is being called out for lying
In a strange twist, Heather comes to Lisa’s defense after she is asked to list all the times Whitney has lied. The Bad Mormon author quips, “You lied about me in the book. You lied about approval after I read you my book.” Meredith jumps on the bandwagon, saying, “You accused me of lying about my father’s memorial. That is the most hurtful thing a friend has ever done to me.” It was at this point that Whitney was squirming as she wiggled on the line of truth and lies. Meredith goes on to point out that Whit accused Mary of running a cult (the jury is still out on that one.)
It’s clear the women felt very strongly about Whitney’s lack of moral code but the conversation felt like a bunch of women ganging up on the not cool girl. In the scene Whitney is on the defense and I think this is where she will stay for most of the season. It was nice to see her have a friend in Angie Katsanevas who did stand up for her. I am worried that Whitney won’t have the fight in her to combat all these allegations.
Meredith Marks is coming for Whitney Rose
As the cast went on their press tours, Meredith made a few remarks about Whitney and their lack of friendship. In another sneak peek, Meredith is seen walking up to Whitney, asking, “So I have to ask: What is up with the bath bombs? You did jewelry last year, you launched bath this year after I said I was doing it. What is your problem with me?” But Whitney looks confused as she claims there is no problem. But in her confessional, Whit notes, “I am genuinely concerned that Meredith is spending too much time in the bathtub because I think everything is starting to shrivel up and prune — including her brain.”
Meredith refused to back down as she noted it felt like Whitney didn’t actually want to be friends. While speaking with Us Weekly, Mer spilled the beans saying, “Whitney and I, I feel like butt heads every year. We just don’t see life from the same standpoint; is really what it boils down to. It may have been her truth, but I don’t think it is actually the truth.” When it comes to Whitney, it sure doesn’t feel like anyone is in her corner. But only time will tell if she can pull herself up by the bootstraps and make amends.
