Here’s Why Lily Has the Perfect Defense on Y&R
Devon admonished Lily for firing Heather and Daniel on the Thursday, April 4 episode of The Young and the Restless. Sure, Lily was furious when she returned to Genoa City and found her boyfriend, Daniel, enjoying breakfast with his daughter…and her mother. Daniel and Heather got back together while Lily was away.
Past Performance
Since Lily (Christel Khalil) was their boss and she didn’t relish sharing an elevator or an executive washroom with them moving forward, she fired both. However, Heather (Vail Bloom), the lawyer, who decided to sue. Billy (Jason Thompson) agrees that they have a case and Lily made a major mistake. Of course, Lily told Devon (Bryton James) that he seemed to be gunning for Billy. Of course, in Genoa City, Lily has all the precedent on her side.
As we covered back in September of 2023, Chancellor-Winters would have to get up pretty early in the morning and work super-hard to commit even a fraction of the Human Resources violations happening on a regular basis at Newman Enterprises.
Test Cases
Remember when Victoria (Amelia Heinle) hired Nate (Sean Dominic) because she was sleeping with him? Remember when Victor (Eric Braeden) fired Nate because he expressed concern about Victor’s health and Victor decided that meant he was plotting to steal Victor’s throne? Remember when Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) fired Audra (Zuleyka Silver) because Audra slept with Kyle (Michael Mealor) who was married to Nikki’s precious granddaughter, Summer (Allison Lanier)? Remember when Sally’s (Courtney Hope) business got funded and defended based upon which Newman brother she was sleeping with, and how Victor felt about the situation?
Just Cause
In each case, each Newman agreed that job performance had nothing to do with it. These actions were completely personal, and they could do them because Newman Enterprises was their personal company. So if Heather and Daniel think they have a legal leg to stand on…they’d best think again. Yeah, sure, Wisconsin is a Right To Work state, which means anyone can be fired for any reason. But, more importantly, Genoa City is a locality where one’s sex life is more than enough reason for termination. What’s good for the Newmans should be good enough for Lily, too!
What do you think? Is Devon right that Lily shouldn’t have fired Heather and Daniel, or did she have the right to do so? Sound off about this situation in the comments below.
