Why Chris Hemsworth & Elsa Pataky Prioritized Their Marriage After They Hit a 'Rough Patch'
The month of May was a big one for Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky, who not only attended the Met Gala (he was one the chairs this year), but they also showed a united front at his Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony. The duo’s love was on display at both events, but behind the scenes, sources are sharing that this is a new chapter for the couple.
In the last few years, the 40-year-old actor and his wife “had a rough patch in their marriage,” according to Life & Style, but things are on the upswing now. “It was tough, and there was no way he wasn’t going to change because of it, but fortunately, it was for the better,” the insider revealed. “Chris feels like he’s gotten a second chance.” There was one crucial moment that became a turning point for them, and it was a serious one.

Two years ago, the Thor star learned he had a genetic predisposition for Alzheimer’s Disease, and it was a game-changer for how he was living his life. “Doing an episode on death [on his National Geographic docuseries Limitless.] and facing your own mortality made me go, ‘Oh God, I’m not ready to go yet,'” he told Vanity Fair in November 2022.” And then you start talking about kids and family and going, ‘Oh my God, they’re getting older, they’re growing up and I keep slapping another movie on top of another movie.’ Before you know it, they’re 18 and they’ve moved out of the house, and I missed the window.”
Hemsworth decided to refocus his energies on Pataky and their three children, daughter India, 12, and twin sons Sasha and Tristan, 10. “Chris worked hard to save his marriage,” the Life & Style source added. “He and Elsa went to marriage counseling and made a concerted effort to spend more time together.” This shift in their relationship also allowed Pataky to return to acting, which had been on the back burner for his career and raising their kids.
“Chris has stepped back a little more recently so Elsa can pursue her dreams,” they continued. “He’s all about letting her rediscover her passions. They’re in a much better place today because of his actions.” That new appreciation for his family shined through during his Hollywood Walk of Fame speech. “[I am] forever in your debt,” Hemsworth gushed to Pataky in front of the supportive crowd. “Nothing that I do… none of it is special without you by my side. I love you.”
