Whoopi Goldberg shuts down Meghan McCain in tense clash on 'The View': 'Stop talking right now'
It was an explosive day on “The View” after Whoopi Goldberg clashed with co-host Meghan McCain.
McCain was attempting to respond to panelist Sunny Hostin’s take on Republican involvement in the recent impeachment hearings when Goldberg jumped in.
“Girl, please stop talking. Please stop talking right now,” said Goldberg.
“I won’t talk the rest of the show. No problem,” McCain fired back. “I’m okay with that,” replied Goldberg to the sounds of a stunned studio audience.
Goldberg continued, “If you’re going to behave like this—” before McCain interrupted to defend herself.
“I’m not behaving like anything. I’m trying to show a conservative perspective,” said McCain.
Goldberg then began to change the subject before throwing in the towel on the conversation and taking the show to a commercial break.
McCain did indeed remain mostly silent for the rest of the show.
Following the broadcast, McCain took to Twitter to express her frustration at not being able to share her perspective on the show, writing:
Pretending half the country doesn't exist won't make them disappear. The culture war is real, and Americans who aren't part of the overwhelmingly anti-conservative media deserve to have their views represented.

Viewers of the show also weighed in on the awkward exchange, with some saying Goldberg was too harsh on McCain:
Am I the only one that that thought @WhoopiGoldberg was out of line? @MeghanMcCain, the way today went down is a picture of the US as we know it. Thank you for your commitment and boldness.

Dear @TheView,
Telling @MeghanMcCain to stop talking is pretty pathetic if you want to respresent other opinions on your show.— Janice Dean (@JaniceDean) December 16, 2019
Meghan has a voice that should be heard she has that right. I do not always agree with her but I have immense respect for her and her family and listen with an open mind as we all should do

But others said Goldberg’s “stop talking” directive was a much-needed interjection:
My God, I have been waiting for MONTHS for someone to tell the entitled brat MM to BE QUIET AND NOT BE SO RUDE TO EVERYONE! Thank you, Whoopi!

I hope @WhoopiGoldberg does NOT apologize tomorrow. Meghan is a habitual interrupter. She should apologize to Whoopi, the rest of the panel & guests. https://t.co/fytBXJmwSw
