The powerhouse cast includes Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, and Keegan-Michael Key. Set on the Transformers home planet of Cybertron, Transformers One tells the origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron and the rift that led them to become rivals.
More from Rolling Stone
The film, a Paramount Pictures production based on Hasbro’s toy line, has among the highest Rotten Tomatoes ratings for the franchise. The film is a standalone prequel, with no direct connection to the main Transformers film series. Dubbed the Bayverse, the live-action Transformers films comprise five Michael Bay films and two prequels, Bumblee and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
Despite its status as a standalone film, fans who want to catch up on the original franchise can conveniently watch it on one streaming service. As a Paramount Pictures release, all of the Bayverse films can be found on Paramount+.
Paramount+
Paramount+ is available in two packages; Paramount+ with Showtime and Paramount+ Essential. They cost $12.99 and $7.99 a month, respectively, and are available with a one-week free trial.
Paramount+ has Transformers, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Transformers: The Last Knight, Bumblebee, and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts available to stream.
Fans looking to stream the original 1986 animated film, The Transformers: The Movie are out of luck, as it is not available for streaming or rent. However, it is available to purchase on DVD or Blu-Ray. There have also been plenty of animated releases in the Transformers universe, including the War for Cybertron Trilogy, which debuted on Netflix in 2020.
Transformers: The Complete Original Series

The original Transformers series, which first aired in 1984 and ran until 1987 is available to stream on free services like Pluto, Tubi, and The Roku Channel. Fans can also pick up the original series on DVD, and it’s available from Amazon, Target and Walmart.
The show debuted on September 17, 1984, meaning that Transformers One is releasing 40 years to the week of the TV show’s debut.
