'Wheel of Fortune' fans call eerie horror-themed puzzle 'pure evil'
They were testing the limits of the spooky season on Wheel of Fortune Wednesday, when one of the puzzles under the Movie Quote category had viewers Tweeting things like, “DON’T SAY HIS NAME!”
Once it was clear that the puzzle was the same word listed four times in a row, it was the contestant named Jordan who was able to figure it out.
The correct answer — “CANDYMAN CANDYMAN CANDYMAN CANDYMAN” — is a reference to the horror film franchise dating back to 1992 with a total of four films. The most recent sequel, Candyman, was released in September and was co-written by Jordan Peele.
In the films, the deadly spirit is summoned when a person says the name Candyman five times into a mirror. While potentially summoning a deadly spirit was met with applause on the show, viewers at home were feeling a little bit differently. And they took to Twitter with their thoughts and fears.

But as some of the true horror fans pointed out, things can really only get dangerous if the name is said five times, so the puzzle was smart to only have it listed four. However, that’s when host Pat Sajak decided to tempt fate.
“That, by the way, for those of you that don’t know is from a film called Candyman,” Sajak said. “And I said it a fifth time which means he appears isn’t that the way it works? Maybe he’s under the wheel.”
Some fans on social media held their collective breath once the damage was done.

But as for contestant Jordan, summoning the Candyman brought nothing but good things his way, since he left the show with $40,610 in his pocket.
