What to Stream: Three Movies to ‘Celebrate’ Going Back to Work
Bad news, everyone. Summer is almost over and your vacation has just about run empty and you gotta return to the grind. To help you get over this, we’re recommending three movies that feature people at work. How this helps you, we have no idea. Regardless, why not stream these three films?
Office Space
When this 1999 comedy by Mike Judge was released in theaters, it was a flop. Somehow this now classic film featuring hilarious performances from Ron Livingston, Jennifer Aniston, and Gary Cole was unappreciated at first. But because it’s a spot-on parody of corporate culture, it managed to find its audience and still remains a relevant satire today. Office Space is available to rent on iTunes.
Clerks
Kevin Smith’s career got its start with this 1994 black-and-white indie. Brian O’Halloran stars as Dante, a convenience-store employee who goes into work to cover a shift on his day off. Unsatisfied with his career and station in life, he spends the day resenting his customers and engaging in long, nerdy conversations with Randall, an employee at the next-door video rental store. Clerks is free to stream with a Hulu subscription.
Training Day
And if you’re truly dreading your return to the job, here’s something to show you it could be a lot worse. Ethan Hawke stars as a rookie on the narcotics beat for the LAPD who gets paired with the savvy, experienced, and ultimately diabolical Denzel Washington. As the workday grows long, things get worse. This film is, of course, really about watching an electric performance from Washington, one that earned him his second Oscar. Training Day is available to rent on Amazon.
