What ‘Telenovela’ Taught Us About Soap Opera Actors

NBC’s hit show Telenovela is fun to watch for entertainment purposes, but it is also a great way to learn about the rarely discussed culture of Spanish-speaking soap opera actors. On Monday’s episode, we learned a lot about telenovela actors, or at least as they are portrayed in the half-hour comedy. Did you know that the telenovela men like to remove their shirts whenever the opportunity arises? Or that the only coffee flavor they like to drink is café de leche? Or that they settle their disagreements by playing “belly Jenga” on someone who is asleep? Because they do.

While some viewers may not be familiar with the world of telenovela, the series Telenovela is a great way to jump into the genre and laugh.

Telenovela airs Mondays at 8:30pm on NBC.
